Do you need a need a new bathroom mirror light? We think it’s time to make the switch. LED lights have now been hailed as the future of home bathroom lighting. If you're looking for lighting that lasts longer, has better energy saving and is instantly bright when you turn it on, then an LED mirror is definitely for you.
What is LED lighting?
LED stands for ‘light-emitting diode’. You may be surprised, but LED lighting was first introduced in the ’60s. Back then, they were only used for small electrical equipment and indicator lights for circuit boards but have since become a part of people's daily life.
Today LED lighting is used on a much larger scale and has become a favoured choice of lighting for people’s homes. Over the years, the technology behind LED lighting has developed rapidly and the improvements in factors such as appearance and cost have made them dramatically more popular.
What makes LED so special?
There are many factors as to why LEDs are so special. Firstly, it's the most energy-efficient lighting to date. Today, it's more important than ever to be aware of your carbon footprint and LEDs act much more efficiently than traditional lighting as they don't require a high voltage to be powered up. Compared to more traditional lights, LEDs produce 95% light and only 5% heat compared to regular bulbs whose light is predominantly produced by creating heat.
LEDs are also super long-lasting. A good quality LED light can last up to 25-30 years - that's almost 50 times longer than a traditional bulb. This makes them much more reliable and will allow you to forget about having to change another lightbulb.
Why is LED better for makeup?
Not only has LED changed the lighting industry, but it also has a huge impact on the make-up industry. Have you ever thought about getting a mirror with lights? We think now is the time.
It’s that time of year again, winter is already upon us and our nights are only going to get darker earlier. We don't know about you, but there’s one thing I dislike the most about winter nights, and I'm not talking about the weather, it’s natural lighting... or the lack of!
There’s nothing worse than getting ready in the evening and having to search the house for just an inch of good lighting. We’ve all been there, you've spent hours on your make-up only to see yourself in a different mirror and think - oh no! That can't be the make-up I spent all those hours applying surely? Too pale or too orange, it's never a good look.
However, recently there has been a revelation in the make-up industry. Today you can't watch a Youtube make-up tutorial without knowing they're sat in front of a huge LED ring light, its a game-changer. Not only that, but LED lights have made a huge appearance at some of the biggest make-up launches, including Benefit Cosmetics eyebrow product launch in Japan. The room was full with LED ring lights and illuminated mirrors, where influencers got to exclusively try the new product. Why? Because LED lighting is the next big thing when it comes to applying make-up.
A common misconception today is that without tip-top make-up skills you can’t achieve your desired look - wrong. The problem isn't with your make-up skills; it's your lighting. Using bad lighting to apply your make-up can lead to a patchy and uneven look. To achieve that smooth finish, it's important to use a light that illuminates your whole face and one that doesn't create shadows. To help you avoid any future make-up disaster, here's a list of lights you should try to avoid when applying your make-up.
Yellow
To keep it short; yellow lighting can make you look ill. It takes the colour out of your face, inevitably leading you to cake on much more make-up than really necessary.
Rose/Pink
Rose or pink lighting does the opposite. This type of lighting, honestly, makes you look better than you probably do. It warms your skin and makes it appear more radiant. Again, this can be dangerous when applying make-up and makes you miss places you don't want.
Fluorescent
Fluorescent lighting is a no go. Its overly bright light washes you out and can make your imperfections more prominent, causing you to go heavier with the make-up.
What other benefits are there to having LED lights?
LEDs aren't just amazing for make-up, they also have other benefits.
- Modern and fashionable,
- Attractive design options,
- Available in a range of changing colours,
- Great for outdoor lighting,
- Allow for greater space.
